The Jerusalem Rotary Club Foundation

The “Scholarship Awards Program” funded by the Jerusalem Rotary Club Foundation has been the flagship project of the Jerusalem Rotary Club since 1968 and with good reason.  Its emphasis on helping hi-tech students speaks to the Club’s realization of the society elevating role that science, medicine and technology play and how integrally these subjects are to mankind’s hopes for a bright future. The financial assistance the Foundation gives to those brilliant inquisitive minds, whose future success is hindered only by their lack of resources, gives expression to the high ideals of Rotary and recognition of the critical importance of education.

Each year the names of academically superior but financially needy students are recommended to the Foundation from schools around Jerusalem. From this list 50-60 recipients are chosen by an independent committee.  The recipients come from every sector of Israeli society, religious and secular, Jewish and Arab, new immigrants and established families and the disabled. To date the Foundation has assisted approximately 3000 students. Below is a letter of thanks sent to us by one of the scholarship recipients.

Our current resources allow us to award scholarships of 800-900 NIS to each student. Our goal, however, is to increase both the number and the amount with aspirations to fund, one day, a full university degree scholarship.

Teachers at the schools concerned tell the Foundation that the scholarships are beneficial and encouraging to the young scholars. They advise the Foundation to focus less on increasing the amount and more on helping a larger number of students. As stated earlier it will be a goal to do both.

The Foundation fund has been built up over the years with contributions from members of the Jerusalem Rotary Club and from friends and family.  The fund is invested and awards are made from the accrued interest.  The Jerusalem Rotary Club Foundation is an amutah, a non-profit organization, and contributions under Israeli law are tax exempt.

If you would like to assist the Foundation with this program, please feel free to contact us through this website.

Re: A letter of thanks for receipt of scholarship

I, Hodaya Repha'el study at Ort Aviation and Space in Ma'ale Adumim. I had been chosen among several candidates to receive a scholarship from you and I was very happy because I knew that this would help me financing my studies.

During the ceremony I was very excited to see that there are so many people assembled together who founded a club in order to contribute to pupils with financial problems, who try and do everything in order to succeed in their studies.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for this scholarship.

For me, it is not only the large sum I received but also the Special Excellence Certificate in which it was written: "contribution to the community and excellence in studies".
I was very happy to hear this. I try to give as much as I can, whether it is in learning or contribution to the community. Every day after school I volunteer at the Mo'adonit and they are happy that I come, help them with their homework, play with them and even I am happy. Although I don't have, I am happy to contribute.

May there will be more people like you, who contribute and help. I shall be happy to continue in your way and give my knowledge to others and make them happy. Thank you very much from me and my family.

From Hodaya Repha'el of Ma'ale Adumim.
